NeighborWorks America Awards $11.8 Million in Fifth Tranche of FY 2025 Flexible Impact Grants
Fiscal Year 2025 Investment of $71.5 Million To Date to Nonprofits Delivering Market-Based Solutions to the Nation’s Housing Supply and Affordability Crisis
Washington, D.C. – NeighborWorks® America, a Congressionally chartered nonprofit corporation that for more than 45 years has advanced affordable mortgage financing and construction of workforce accessible homes, announced today distribution of $11.8 million in a fifth tranche of grants to its nationwide network of nearly 250 nonprofit community development small businesses. This investment is the latest round of grants in organizations focused on solving the housing affordability and supply crises. With this tranche, Fiscal Year 2025 investments total $71.5 million.
“The national NeighborWorks network needs these Congressionally appropriated funds to help alleviate the housing supply shortage and strengthen communities,” said NeighborWorks America President & CEO Marietta Rodriguez. “Mortgage and small business capital is increasingly out of reach for many who want to pursue homeownership or start a small business. The NeighborWorks organizations receiving these flexible grants will invest them in communities, helping to reduce the cost of homeownership and lower the financial barriers for entrepreneurs creating jobs.
“Since our founding more than 45 years ago, NeighborWorks America has worked with every Administration and Congress to innovate and bring new methods and ideas from within our national network to expand housing supply in both the apartment and single-family sectors and build business capacity,” Rodriguez added. “Our collective work attracts fresh private capital to help ensure that everyone has a safe and affordable place to call home.”
For every dollar of federal appropriation in fiscal year 2024, NeighborWorks and its network attracted an additional $71 of additional public and private sector direct investment in communities, and:
Helped 105,000 families and individuals by providing counseling on financial capability, pre-purchase, post-purchase or foreclosure issues.
Created 16,300 new homeowners.
Owned and/or managed 211,900 rental homes.
Created and/or maintained 48,900 jobs.
"These grant funds are an investment that is efficiently and safely delivered to nearly 250 nonprofit organizations working in communities all across the nation; the grants underscore our commitment to making residents and their communities stronger," emphasized Rodriguez.
In addition to funding, NeighborWorks supports its network's ability to develop and maintain the supply of affordable housing through virtual and in-person professional development opportunities including the NeighborWorks Training Institute and organizational assessments. These initiatives enhance and enrich our network organizations and affirm our pledge to strengthen the sector's capacity to increase residential development and nurture enduring change in communities nationwide.
