Washington, D.C. – NeighborWorks® America, a Congressionally chartered nonprofit corporation that for more than 45 years has advanced affordable mortgage financing and construction of workforce accessible homes, announced today distribution of $11.8 million in a fifth tranche of grants to its nationwide network of more than 245 nonprofit community development small businesses. This investment is the latest round of grants in organizations focused on solving the housing affordability and supply crises. With this tranche, Fiscal Year 2025 investments total $71.5 million. 

Washington, D.C. — NeighborWorks® America honored five resident leaders with its 2025 Dorothy Richardson Award for Resident Leadership. The honorees, who come from across the country, inspire their neighbors and lead their communities in promoting improvements and change, in preserving local culture, and in ensuring their communities are safe and healthy places to call home. The awards will be presented in a ceremony on Oct. 31 during NeighborWorks America’s Community Leadership Institute in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Washington, D.C. – NeighborWorks America’s board of directors and President and CEO Marietta Rodriguez announced the appointment of Lee Anne Adams to serve as the organization's Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer. Adams, who joined NeighborWorks in 2008, was previously senior vice president of the organization’s National Initiatives division, where she had principal responsibility for programs supporting affordable housing development and asset management, homeownership, lending and wealth building and community initiatives. She follows Susan M. Ifill who is retiring after serving in the role since 2020.

Federal investment in NeighborWorks America is an efficient and effective way to deliver affordable housing dollars, with every dollar of federal appropriation multiplied 71 times on behalf of individuals and families across America.

Washington, D.C. – Even as more than a quarter of U.S. adults hope to purchase a home in the coming year, rising costs and affordability barriers are forcing many to wait. Twenty-seven percent (27%) of adults in America agree they are looking to purchase a home in the next twelve months, but one-third of adults who are either waiting to purchase or are uninterested, cite low income relative to prices as the chief obstacle to a purchase, while more than one-in-five (22%) are waiting for home prices to fall before they consider putting an offer on a home. That’s according to the latest homeownership attitude survey from NeighborWorks America, a leading nonprofit focused on creating homeownership opportunities and building homes to solve the housing crisis.

NeighborWorks America and its network of local organizations across the U.S. are observing NeighborWorks Week June 7-14. Throughout this week, NeighborWorks network organizations will celebrate how NeighborWorks, business, local government and residents come together to empower people to transform their lives through affordable housing development and homeownership. Held during National Homeownership Month, events around the country will highlight resident-led innovative partnerships that develop and sustain affordable rental and homeownership opportunities.

The grants are the second disbursement of Fiscal Year 2025 funds while the organization awaits its full year funding. 

NeighborWorks America today announced $375,000 in Shared Equity Housing (SEH) investments to eight NeighborWorks network nonprofit organizations, the latest round under a Congressionally approved $12-million initiative. These grants come as an analysis on the program’s effectiveness shows how grant investment, technical assistance and scholarships over the initiative’s five-year span helped participating housing organizations grow their permanently affordable homeownership portfolios.
